Turkey plans to sign a specific offshore energy exploration agreement with Syria in 2026 to assess potential resources along the Syrian coast, following a broader energy cooperation framework signed earlier this year. Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar noted that seismic research may be conducted, though drilling is not guaranteed. The announcement builds on deepening Turkish-Syrian energy ties, including a major May 2025 agreement covering natural gas, electricity, and mining, and projects such as a gas pipeline from Kilis to Aleppo and planned power plants. The move could raise regional tensions, particularly with Greece and Cyprus, over potential exclusive economic zone claims in the Eastern Mediterranean....
