Kenyan engineers are warning that the country's mining sector is losing immense economic value by exporting raw minerals, earning only minimal royalties while profits flow to foreign shareholders. Led by the IEK president, they criticized a model that allows multinationals to process resources overseas, advocating instead for local beneficiation using Kenya's own technical expertise. The engineers pointed to vast, untapped resources like coal deposits worth KES 4 trillion as opportunities to fund national development without accruing debt. They called for urgent policy reforms to shift the industry towards domestic processing, job creation, and greater retention of mining revenues within Kenya....
