Saudi road freight capacity grows with 500000 truck fleet

By: Logistics Middle east

Saudi Arabia has activated a national fleet exceeding 500,000 trucks to safeguard freight mobility and strengthen road freight capacity across the Gulf region.

The initiative forms part of a logistics continuity framework overseen by the Transport General Authority to maintain uninterrupted cargo flows between ports, airports, industrial cities and logistics zones.

The land transport system operates through a network of 18,500 licensed companies that collectively support large scale cargo distribution across Saudi Arabia and neighboring GCC markets.

Authorities state that the expanded road freight capacity provides sufficient vehicle availability to absorb fluctuations in cargo demand while ensuring stable supply chain throughput.

Road freight capacity

Saudi Arabia’s transport authorities report that the new logistics corridors program enables greater operational flexibility between maritime gateways on the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf.

This interconnection supports the movement of containers and bulk cargo through alternative transport routes when trade patterns shift.

Al Jasser explains that Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea ports collectively offer container handling capacity exceeding 17 million TEU annually.

These facilities play an important role in receiving cargo redirected through regional supply chains and transferring shipments to inland transport corridors supported by the national truck fleet.

Government planners also indicate that freight handling operations across Saudi ports continue to operate with high regularity and efficiency.

Advanced organizational procedures and digital traffic management systems coordinate cargo movement from western coast ports toward logistics corridors connecting GCC markets.

Digital carrier directory

The Transport General Authority has also introduced a digital directory of licensed truck freight carriers through the Logisti platform. The system allows cargo owners and logistics operators to identify approved transport providers and assess vehicle availability across different shipment routes.

The platform provides detailed operational data including truck types, trailer configurations and service destinations across domestic and cross border routes.

Transport companies can therefore connect directly with cargo owners seeking reliable road freight capacity for shipments within Saudi Arabia and across the GCC.
