The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) has invalidated a government permit for Eskom's proposed 3,000-megawatt natural gas power plant in Richards Bay. The SCA cited inadequate public consultation as the basis for its decision, requiring Eskom to seek authorization anew with proper public participation. This ruling is consistent with prior judgments against energy firms for insufficient community engagement. Environmental organizations have welcomed the SCA's verdict, raising concerns about pollution from Eskom's operations. Neither Eskom nor the environment department has provided comment....
