Arab and African countries accounted for more than half of Eni's oil and gas production and featured heavily in new discoveries during the first nine months of 2026, according to a report the Italian energy company published Friday, October 23.

The figures, covering January through September, were part of Eni's regular operational and financial disclosures, which detailed activity across more than ten countries in the Middle East and Africa alongside operations elsewhere.

North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa together produced 939,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the third quarter, about 51.3 percent of Eni's total third-quarter output of 1.83 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, the report said. Over the full nine-month period, the two regions averaged 933,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, roughly 51.6 percent of the company's nine-month average production of 1.81 million barrels of oil equivalent per day.

North Africa alone produced 536,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the third quarter and averaged 532,000 over the nine months, according to the report. Sub-Saharan Africa produced 403,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the third quarter and averaged 401,000 over the same period.

Eni said it added about 1.23 billion barrels of oil equivalent in newly discovered resources between January and the end of September. Seven countries contributed to those discoveries, five of them Arab or African: Egypt, Libya, Angola, Namibia and Ivory Coast. Norway and Indonesia were the other two.

Ten Arab and African countries featured in Eni's nine-month update overall: Libya, Egypt, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, the Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Angola, Namibia and Ivory Coast. The list, spanning North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, reflects the geographic range of Eni's activity in the region during the period.

The company's capital expenditure reached 5.4 billion euros, or roughly 6 billion dollars at the exchange rate cited in the report, over the nine months, with 4.2 billion euros directed toward exploration and production. Eleven countries received that investment, seven of them Arab or African: Libya, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Iraq, Congo and Nigeria.

In Algeria, Eni and state energy company Sonatrach signed a memorandum of intent during the third quarter to broaden cooperation between the two companies, including steps to cut emissions from oil and gas operations and to monitor and reduce methane. The memorandum did not include specific volumes or financial figures.

In Libya, Eni announced the completion of its Bouri gas project around the end of September and the start of October. The company said the project would avoid about 1.5 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year, with the gas destined for Libya's domestic market.

In Ivory Coast, Eni sold a 10 percent stake in its Baleine project to Azerbaijan's state energy company SOCAR in September.
