Kenya is advancing efforts to achieve universal energy access through its Mission 300 National Energy Compact, with government agencies, development partners, and private sector representatives coming together to strengthen implementation plans. The initiative aims to transform energy access across the country by expanding electricity connections, increasing renewable energy capacity, and improving energy infrastructure.

The implementation support workshop, organized by the Government of Kenya and the African Development Bank Group, focused on turning national energy commitments into a practical roadmap. The two-day meeting brought together key stakeholders to review progress, address implementation challenges, identify financing needs, and establish priorities for the next phase of the programme.

Under Kenya’s National Energy Compact, the country aims to increase electricity access from 75% to 100%, achieve universal access to clean cooking solutions, expand renewable energy capacity, develop additional transmission infrastructure, and attract greater private sector investment in the energy sector.

A major outcome of the workshop was progress toward developing Kenya’s Compact Implementation Support Document. The framework is designed to translate energy commitments into specific actions by defining responsibilities, identifying technical assistance requirements, outlining financing priorities, and establishing monitoring systems to track results.

Mission 300 is a joint initiative led by the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank Group, with support from partners including the Rockefeller Foundation, Sustainable Energy for All, and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet. The programme aims to connect an additional 300 million people across Africa to electricity by 2030 while strengthening energy systems and encouraging investment.

Kenya has already made progress through energy reforms, renewable energy development, and infrastructure investments. Recent efforts under Mission 300 are focused on improving coordination, strengthening delivery institutions, and accelerating projects that can expand reliable and affordable power access for households, businesses, and communities.

The continued implementation of Kenya’s Energy Compact highlights the country’s commitment to building a more inclusive and sustainable energy future. By combining policy reforms, investment, and stronger institutional coordination, Kenya aims to turn its energy ambitions into measurable results that support economic growth and improved livelihoods.
