Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has signed an agreement with the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE) to support industrial decarbonisation in Morocco. The initiative will also strengthen green skills development across key sectors of the economy.

The $13.5 million programme will run from 2026 to 2030. Its main objective is to reduce industrial emissions while improving energy efficiency in major industries. Officials signed the agreement during a ceremony attended by Yeonjean Yoon, South Korea’s Ambassador to Morocco, KOICA Country Director Hyewon Cho and AMEE Director General Mohamed Benyahia.

KOICA stated that the programme will accelerate Morocco’s shift toward a   industrial sector. In addition, it will strengthen workforce capacity and encourage the adoption of sustainable industrial practices.

To implement the project, KOICA and AMEE will collaborate with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the International Labour Organization. Through this partnership, the institutions will combine technical expertise, policy support and workforce training.

The agreement further reinforces broader cooperation between Morocco and South Korea in energy efficiency and sustainable development.

Morocco has intensified efforts to decarbonise its industrial sector to improve competitiveness. The country launched its renewable energy strategy in 2009 to expand green power and position itself as a regional leader in renewable deployment.

Meanwhile, Morocco continues to strengthen international partnerships to finance decarbonisation. In 2024, OCP Group signed an agreement with Bpifrance and the French Development Agency to support industrial decarbonisation and sustainable agriculture.

The partnership created a €50 million investment fund through Bpifrance and Innovx, an affiliate of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University. The fund aims to support startups, SMEs and mid-sized companies across Africa, particularly in agriculture, agri-food and green energy sectors.
