Asante appoints COO, starts search for CEO

By: Mining weekly

Baird’s appointment takes immediate effect and comes as Asante focuses on strengthening operational performance at its Bibiani and Chirano mines in Ghana.

Baird brings more than 30 years of international operational and technical experience across exploration, development and production projects in Africa, Australia and North America.

In his new role, he will focus on improving operational execution, increasing production efficiencies and supporting the ramp-up of the Bibiani and Chirano operations toward planned production levels.

The company also confirmed that Anthony will retire as president, CEO and a director on May 15, 2026. He joined Asante as COO in 2021 and was appointed CEO in March 2022.

During his tenure, the company transitioned from a development-stage business to a producing gold company, advanced operations at Bibiani and Chirano and raised more than $500-million in development capital.

A formal search for a new CEO has been launched, while Anthony will remain in an advisory capacity for a transitional period after his retirement.

Further, Asante said Michele Muscillo and Kevin Tomlinson had been appointed as advisers to support governance, risk management and strategic initiatives.

The company also announced the retirement of director Roger Norwich, who had served on the board since 2020.
