Liberia's Ministry of Mines and Energy has ordered the immediate closure of all mining operations in Duogbo City due to large-scale illegal activities, including dangerously deep pits up to 27 meters that threaten local homes and a major road. This is the second such order in 2025, and enforcement is being strengthened with support from local authorities and state security agencies after the first was ignored. The ministry revealed that some local officials were colluding with the illicit miners, undermining regulatory efforts. The closure aims to protect the environment and infrastructure while enforcing mining laws, with communities being urged to resist offers from those destroying land and livelihoods....
