The Government of Cameroon, Africa Global Logistics (AGL) and CAMALCO signed, on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Starland Hotel in Yaoundé, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) relating to the development of the Edéa–Kribi–Campo railway line.

Held under the patronage of Jean Ernest Massena Ngallè Bibehe, Minister of Transport, the ceremony gathered several government members, ambassadors, technical and financial partners, Mr. Philippe Labonne, President of AGL, as well as Mr. Rana Pratap Singh representing CAMALCO.

This Memorandum of Understanding marks a decisive step in structuring a public-private partnership covering the update of studies, design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of this strategic railway infrastructure, listed among the priority projects of Cameroon’s National Development Strategy 2030 (SND30).

A structuring project for national connectivity and regional development

The future Edéa–Kribi–Lolabé–Campo railway line will contribute to strengthening connectivity between production areas, the Port of Kribi and the southern regions of the country. It will facilitate the movement of people, enhance trade and logistics flows, and support the development of new economic hubs.

The project also addresses the growing needs associated with major mining developments, particularly the transportation of bauxite from the Minim Martap deposit, whose reserves are estimated at 144 million tonnes, as well as supporting the integrated industrial and logistics zone of the deep-sea port of Kribi.

“The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding demonstrates the Government’s commitment to equipping Cameroon with modern railway infrastructure aligned with its economic ambitions. This project will strengthen the competitiveness of our economy and support sustainable socio-economic development, particularly in key sectors such as mining, industry and logistics,” said the Minister of Transport.

Partners committed to an integrated logistics development vision

This partnership brings together the Government of Cameroon, which leads the development vision for the national railway network, Africa Global Logistics (AGL), a leading transport and logistics operator, and CAMALCO, a key player in the development of the mining sector in Cameroon.

AGL, a key player in port-rail integration in Cameroon

AGL plays a strategic role in strengthening the competitiveness of the Port of Kribi. As operator and majority shareholder of Kribi Conteneurs Terminal (KCT), as well as KPIZ, the SPV Consortium managing the industrial and logistics zone of the port, the Group actively contributes to the expansion of these critical infrastructures for socio-economic development and regional and international trade.

AGL positions itself as a key player in the integration of multimodal logistics chains and in the efficient development of corridors, which are essential for the development of Africa in general and Cameroon in particular.

“AGL is proud to support the Government of Cameroon in the implementation of this structuring project. Leveraging our railway expertise and our strong presence in port infrastructure, particularly at the Port of Kribi, we contribute to building integrated logistics solutions and high-performance corridors to support the country’s economic transformation,” said Philippe Labonne, President of AGL.

CAMALCO, a strategic investor serving the mining sector

CAMALCO, the Cameroonian subsidiary of the Australian group Canyon Resources, is a major player in the national mining industry. Involved in the development of the Minim Martap bauxite project, the company plans a total investment of USD 446 million, with a target production of 10 million tons of high-quality bauxite per year.

Established in 2018, CAMALCO plays a key role in strengthening Cameroon’s mining capabilities through a combination of technical expertise, substantial investments and logistics partnerships. Its commitment to developing transport infrastructure, particularly through significant investments in rolling stock and logistics equipment, is a major lever to ensure competitiveness and sustainability in the sector.

“This railway project is a critical link to secure and optimize the transportation of resources from the Minim Martap project. It will strengthen the competitiveness of the mining sector while contributing to a structuring partnership with the Government and AGL,” said Rana Pratap Singh.
