Hitachi Energy opens Cairo office to anchor Africa growth

By: Utilities Middle east

Hitachi Energy has officially inaugurated its new office in Cairo, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion in Egypt and underscoring its growing role in strengthening resilient and sustainable energy infrastructure across Africa.

According to the press release, the opening ceremony was attended by the Ambassadors of Japan and Sweden to Egypt, a representative from the Embassy of Switzerland, and Mohamed Hosseiny, Managing Director for Africa at Hitachi Energy.

The new office reflects the company’s long-term commitment to the Egyptian market and supports its broader growth strategy across the continent.

Designed to enhance collaboration and operational efficiency, the Cairo facility consolidates all Hitachi Energy employees in Egypt under one roof. The move is intended to strengthen coordination across teams and deepen engagement with customers and partners, reinforcing Egypt’s position as a strategic base for the company’s African operations.

Sustainability was a central consideration in the office’s design. High-performance glazed façades maximise the use of natural daylight, reducing reliance on artificial lighting, while additional efficiency measures significantly lower the building’s energy and water footprint, supporting long-term environmental responsibility.

“Egypt plays a pivotal role in Hitachi Energy’s long-term vision for Africa,” said Mohamed Hosseiny. “This new office is more than a physical expansion. It reflects our continued investment in local talent and operational excellence to deploy state-of-the-art technologies that support sustainable economic growth and energy resilience across the region.”

Hitachi Energy is a key contributor to the expansion and modernisation of Egypt’s power system through flagship projects including the Egypt–Saudi HVDC interconnection and the East Oueinat STATCOM. These projects are strengthening grid resilience, enabling cross-border power exchange and supporting the large-scale integration of renewables to drive long-term energy security and economic growth.

Japan’s Ambassador to Egypt, H.E. Fumio Iwai, congratulated the company on the opening, describing the Cairo office as a pivotal hub for Hitachi Energy’s continued growth across Africa. He reiterated Japan’s commitment to working with the Egyptian government to enhance the business environment for Japanese companies and deepen cooperation with international partners.

Sweden’s Ambassador to Egypt, H.E. Dag Juhlin Dannfelt, also welcomed the milestone, saying it reflected confidence in Egypt’s energy sector and Sweden’s belief in innovation-driven partnerships. He noted Hitachi Energy’s role in delivering clean, secure and resilient energy solutions aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Egypt remains a cornerstone of Hitachi Energy’s African footprint. The company’s transformer manufacturing facility in the country plays a vital role in supplying advanced energy solutions across the continent, exporting to multiple regional markets and supporting the development of future-ready power infrastructure.
