Qatar Airways expands Africa network with route additions

By: Aviation business Middle east

Qatar Airways will expand services across Africa from June and July 2026 through resumed routes, higher flight frequencies, and a new service to Port Sudan.

The carrier will restart four weekly flights to Seychelles and two weekly services to Kigali from June 16, while daily flights to Marrakesh will begin from July 1.

Frequency increases will also take effect across several destinations. Alexandria services will rise from three weekly flights to up to seven, Cairo from 28 to 35 weekly flights, and Cape Town from seven to up to 10 weekly services.

Dar es Salaam frequencies will increase from three weekly flights to up to seven. Lusaka-Harare and Maputo-Durban services will also move to daily operations.

Port Sudan service to begin in July

Qatar Airways will launch three weekly flights to Port Sudan from July 2, operating every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

The airline said the route will improve access for passengers travelling from markets in the Middle East and Southeast Asia through Hamad International Airport.

Passengers travelling from countries including Oman and Pakistan will be able to connect to the Sudanese destination through Doha as the carrier expands regional connectivity.

Flight QR1319 will depart Doha at 09:00 and arrive in Port Sudan at 11:00, while the return QR1320 service will leave Port Sudan at 12:25 and land in Doha at 16:20.

Frequency increases

The expansion forms part of Qatar Airways’ wider growth strategy across African markets as airlines continue increasing capacity on regional and long haul routes.

Additional frequencies to cities including Cairo, Cape Town, and Dar es Salaam will raise seat availability and support passenger and trade connectivity between Africa and international markets served through Doha.

The airline said the latest additions balance network growth with rising demand for air travel connectivity across the continent.
