Uganda's export earnings up 13% y/y in May
Uganda's export earnings rose about 13% in May from the same month last year, helped by higher gold and tobacco receipts, its finance ministry said on Tuesday.
Export earnings rose to $1.34 billion from $1.19 billion in May 2025, the finance ministry said in a report.
The growth was primarily driven by higher earnings from gold. The value of gold shipments surged 67.7% to $814.78 million in May.
"This was due to a combination of higher export volumes and surging global prices for gold during this period," the ministry said.
Uganda is a regional gold-processing hub. Gold, alongside coffee, is one of the East African country's main sources of foreign exchange.
