Ghana's GRIDCo, ECG Set Kumasi Power Outages Through Nov. 29

Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), the country's national electricity transmission utility, and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the main power distributor serving southern Ghana, said in a joint statement that they will carry out scheduled power outages in Kumasi and surrounding communities from October 30 through November 29.
The outages are linked to an upgrade of the 161-kilovolt Anwomaso–Ahodwo transmission line, referred to as K1–K2, which the two companies said is about 70 percent complete and is expected to be finished by the end of November.
According to the statement, outages will take place on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., with specific communities losing power on specific days as crews progress along the line's route. GRIDCo and ECG said the interruptions are necessary so that work teams can safely string new conductors onto the line's transmission towers.
ECG said it would publish a detailed schedule identifying which communities would be affected on which dates as the upgrade proceeds.
The companies asked residents and businesses in the affected communities to cooperate with project teams for the duration of the outages and apologized for the inconvenience caused. They said the completed upgrade is intended to improve the reliability of electricity supply in Kumasi and the broader Ashanti Region.
Kumasi is Ghana's second-largest city and a major commercial and transport hub for the Ashanti Region. The statement did not give a specific number of customers expected to be affected or a cost figure for the upgrade project.
