The African Energy Chamber (AEC) is advocating for free-market solutions rather than USAID's good-will handouts, despite criticism for not making significant socioeconomic change. Since 1960, over $2.6 trillion has been pumped into Africa, but from 1970 to 1998, poverty rose from 11% to 66%. Aid has also contributed to systemic corruption and failed agricultural projects. The AEC is advocating for Africa's oil and gas industry as a free-market solution that empowers Africans and promotes an energy mix approach.
