The African Energy Chamber (AEC) is advocating for free-market solutions rather than USAID's good-will handouts, despite criticism for not making significant socioeconomic change. Since 1960, over $2.6 trillion has been pumped into Africa, but from 1970 to 1998, poverty rose from 11% to 66%. Aid has also contributed to systemic corruption and failed agricultural projects. The AEC is advocating for Africa's oil and gas industry as a free-market solution that empowers Africans and promotes an energy mix approach. Western environmentalists argue that Africa should keep its petroleum resources in the ground to prevent further climate change, which would be detrimental to Africa's energy, economic, and individual independence....
