Egypt, Azerbaijan Discuss Strengthened Hydrocarbon Cooperation

Egypt and Azerbaijan explored opportunities for strengthening cooperation in the oil and gas sector during a meeting held in Vienna last week. Both countries have expressed a willingness to advance joint initiatives and expand energy ties.
During the meeting, Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Egypt, and Parviz Shahbazov, Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, discussed opportunities in liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade, petroleum product circulation and investment in Egypt’s upstream sector. This includes exploration, production and the development of mature fields.
The discussions also covered the use of existing infrastructure and technical capabilities to facilitate joint projects and exchange expertise. Possible cooperation between the state-owned Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and Azerbaijan’s national oil company SOCAR was also reviewed.
The meeting builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2024. The MoU, signed between Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy, outlines cooperation in oil, gas and petrochemicals.
