Zambia Approves Energy Investments Worth $370M

Zambia’s Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has approved 62 license applications and eight construction permits for petroleum and renewable energy projects worth $370 million. The approval falls under government efforts to diversify the energy mix, accelerate infrastructure development and bring in new investments to bolster energy access, energy security and service delivery.
Projects include the $270 million, 200km, 330kV Kalumbila-Kolwezi Interconnector Project to enhance regional connectivity and the $75 million, 100 MWp solar PV plant in Mumbwa District. Additionally, an $8 million off-grid renewable energy project, comprising an 8 MWp solar plant and a 20 MWh battery storage facility, will be constructed at Ruida Mine in Kasampa District.
The ERB also granted operational licenses for 114 road tank vehicles and four new service stations to enhance the distribution of petroleum products across the country.
“The steady growth in investments highlights the country’s favorable regulatory framework and the ERB’s efforts to streamline approval processes for investors to participate in the value chains,” stated an official Energy Regulation Board statement.
