Renewable Energy: UAE and Germany Strengthen Clean Energy Collaboration

By: Utilities middle east

The ongoing collaboration aims to solidify the UAE’s role as a leader in clean energy, with discussions focused on green hydrogen and renewable energy advancements.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), recently hosted a distinguished German delegation led by HE Sybille Pfaff, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Dubai.

The meeting, part of the Energy Export Initiative by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, explored potential partnerships in renewable energy and green hydrogen production.

Al Tayer emphasised the significance of the UAE’s collaboration with Germany, reinforcing the country’s status as a global hub for clean energy technologies. Discussions centred on strengthening strategic partnerships, sharing best practices, and exchanging technical expertise, particularly in green hydrogen production and storage. The meeting aligned with the UAE’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and foster a sustainable green economy.

The German delegation comprised representatives from notable companies, including FEV Group, MAN Energy Solutions, Hexagon Purus, and MoveTech, along with members of the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry & Commerce. These organisations are recognised for their expertise in energy systems, hydrogen storage solutions, and sustainable mobility innovations.

Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s initiatives supporting Dubai’s transition to a green economy. These initiatives focus on diversifying energy production and increasing the share of renewable energy. This aligns with Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim for 100% clean energy production by 2050.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park, plays a pivotal role in this transition. With a planned capacity of 7,260MW by 2030, the park will significantly contribute to Dubai’s clean energy goals. Al Tayer detailed the park’s expansion phases, including the sixth and seventh phases, which will enhance solar PV technologies and incorporate large-scale solar-plus-storage projects.
