Namibia: ReconAfrica Spuds Kavango West 1X Exploration Well
The well is targeting a total depth of approximately 3,800m, with around 1,500m penetrating the Otavi carbonate reservoir – the primary target of the Damara Fold Belt play.
The Otavi prospect spans an area roughly 22 km long and 3 km wide – identified through modern 2D seismic data – while the broader Damara Fold Belt play includes over 19 prospects and four leads.
Brian Reinsborough, President and CEO of ReconAfrica said the Kavango West 1X prospect well represents an opportunity to achieve commercial success.
“Originally, the Kavango West 1X location was not scheduled to be the next well, but the location was reprioritized after the results of our last well, Naingopo,” stated Reinsborough.
Results from the campaign will be released by the end of 2025.
ReconAfrica has also deferred its planned 3D seismic program to 2026 to focus on its drilling campaign.
