Morocco Opens Tender for Nador LNG Terminal
Morocco’s Energy Ministry has issued an expression of interest for the development of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at the Port of Nador. The announcement marks the first phase in a tender process for the terminal, which will support electricity production and supply industrial zones in Mohammedia and Kenitra.
The terminal, which will feature a floating storage and regasification unit, will connect to a planned pipeline extending south to Dakhla and ultimately to the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, linking 13 West African countries.
While gas currently plays a limited role in Morocco’s electricity mix, the country is positioning it as a transitional energy source with lower carbon emissions, aligned with its climate objectives.
