The Niger Delta Blue Economy Investment Summit is scheduled to take place in Akwa Ibom State from February 9–11, 2026, convening stakeholders from across Africa to explore sustainable development opportunities in the region's maritime sector. Under the theme “Harnessing Blue Economy Potentials for Sustainable Development in the Niger Delta,” the event aims to position the Niger Delta as a leader in Africa’s blue economy, which is projected to contribute over $405 billion continent-wide by 2030.

The summit will feature a keynote address by former Tunisian Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa, alongside experts such as Paul Holthus of the World Ocean Council, Professor Pierre Failler of the University of Portsmouth, and government representatives from Nigeria’s Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. Organizers emphasize the need to transform the region's vast coastline and marine resources—spanning fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, and renewable energy—into tangible economic benefits.

Co-convener Dr. Uche Igwe described the summit as an overdue platform to move beyond the region's "paradox of plenty" and attract meaningful investment. The event will also launch the Niger Delta Blue Economy Investment Fund, designed to catalyze regional development projects. With a focus on inclusivity, the summit aims to blend perspectives from policymakers, the private sector, civil society, and local communities to create a practical roadmap for sustainable and resilient growth.
