Mauritania Expands Energy Workforce Training

Mauritania’s Ministries of Vocational Training and Energy have signed an agreement to support the School of Minerals, Petroleum and Gas. The objective is to strengthen national competencies in key sectors including hydrocarbons and renewable energy.
The agreement was signed on July 17 by Amadi Ould Taleb, Secretary General, Ministry of Vocational Training and Ismail Ould Abdelfattah, Director General, Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company (SMH). It covers the development of specialized training programs and the improvement of vocational training quality in line with international standards.
The School of Minerals, Petroleum and Gas is a vocational training institution in Mauritania focused on developing national expertise in hydrocarbons, mining, and renewable energy. The school is part of the government’s strategy to align technical education with the needs of major energy and extractive projects.
In January 2023, Mauritania launched an international tender for its construction, and recent agreements – including a $5 million commitment from the DREAM project – aim to equip the facility and develop specialized curricula.
