Kuwait has formalized a major infrastructure agreement with China to construct a new strategic port. The $4.1 billion engineering, supply, and construction contract for the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port on Boubyan Island was signed by Kuwait’s Minister of Public Works, Dr. Nora Al-Mashaan, and a senior representative from the China Communications Construction Company.

During the signing ceremony, Kuwait’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, emphasized the depth of bilateral relations and described the port as a cornerstone of Kuwait’s economic development strategy. The project is designed to significantly enhance Kuwait's share in regional and international trade, integrate the country more deeply into global supply chains, diversify the national economy, and create skilled employment opportunities.

Chinese officials characterized the project as a key component of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, underscoring the strategic cooperation between the two nations. Kuwaiti officials, including the Foreign Minister, stated that the port represents a transformative step toward realizing Kuwait's Vision 2035, positioning the country as a regional financial and trade hub alongside other major infrastructure developments.
