G20 Investment Forum to Highlight Africa’s Energy Projects as Global Investment Priority

By: African energy chamber

Forging Africa's Energy Future Ahead of the G20

Ahead of the pivotal G20 Summit, the G20 African Energy Investment Forum, hosted by the African Energy Chamber (AEC), is set to convene top global and African leaders in Johannesburg. The forum's central mission is to bridge the gap between international capital and African projects, focusing on how investment, innovation, and partnerships can unlock the continent's vast energy potential to drive sustainable economic growth, in direct alignment with G20 priorities on infrastructure and energy security.

Deepening Ties with Middle Eastern Capital

A key theme of the forum is the rapidly growing strategic partnership between Africa and the Middle East. A dedicated session will examine how Saudi-led investment is becoming a major catalyst for Africa's energy transformation. This conversation will spotlight the concrete cross-border partnerships emerging from Saudi Arabia's pledge of $41 billion over the next decade for Sub-Saharan Africa, delivering the scale and expertise needed to develop both renewable and conventional energy projects.

Mobilizing Capital and De-risking Investments

The agenda places a strong emphasis on the practical mechanics of financing Africa's energy needs. Development finance institutions will take center stage in discussions on enhancing local market access and creating frameworks to mobilize much-needed private capital. A separate, focused fireside chat will tackle the critical issue of de-risking investments, exploring practical approaches to mitigating risks and structuring finance to create "investment-ready" projects that can attract international capital.

Spotlight on Gas and Strategic Outcomes

The forum will also provide a platform to articulate the strategic role of Africa's natural gas in the global energy landscape. A specific session will position gas as both a transitional fuel and a strategic resource for regional industrialization, highlighting how it can strengthen continental energy security while advancing economic development. The overarching goal, as stated by AEC Executive Chairman NJ Ayuk, is to turn discussions into action, connecting global investors with African projects to power growth, create jobs, and support sustainable development.
