BW Energy Selects Deepsea Mira Rig for Kudu Appraisal

By: Energy capital & power

Oil and gas firm BW Energy and the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia have contracted Odfjell Drilling’s Deepsea Mira semi-submersible rig for an upcoming appraisal well project offshore Namibia.

The semi-submersible rig will provide drilling services for the Kharas appraisal well on the Kudu license in the Orange Basin. The project is scheduled to commence in the second half of 2025.

The deal is part of a $40 million contract awarded to rig operator Northern Ocean in early July 2025, covering multiple wells offshore Namibia.

In addition to the Kharas well, BW Energy will drill another well in early 2026 to expand its resource portfolio and operational footprint in Namibia.

The company intends to conduct a seismic survey to assess the potential of its onshore basins and drill two exploration wells in the Kavango Rift Basin, as part of a $6.4 million campaign announced in 2024.
