Azule Energy Spuds First Well at Angola’s NGC Project

By: Energy capital & power

International energy company Azule Energy has spud the QUI-Q-GP01 well in Angola, signaling a step towards non-associated gas production in the country. The well represents the first to be drilled under the New Gas Consortium (NGC) project, with first gas expected in early 2026.

The well is being drilled using the jack-up rig Valaris V-144, which has a capacity to drill up to depths of 35,000 feet. Upon completion, it will harness resources from the Quiluma and Maboqueiro shallow water fields –Angola’s first non-associated gas development.

The milestone follows the completion of the Quiluma and Maboqueiro offshore platforms in 2025. Led by the NGC – comprising Azule Energy as operator, Sonangol P&P, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited and TotalEnergies – the project will provide feedstock for the Angola LNG project.
