ACWA Power Wins Two 400 MW Solar Projects in Morocco

ACWA Power has secured two major solar energy projects in Morocco –NOOR Midelt 2 and NOOR Midelt 3 –following an international tender led by the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN). Each project involves a 400 MW photovoltaic power plant paired with large battery energy storage systems capable of delivering 230 MW for two hours during peak demand.
The projects will be developed under a Build-Own-Operate model and backed by 30-year power purchase agreements with MASEN, which will buy the electricity produced.
By combining solar generation with energy storage, NOOR Midelt 2 and 3 will enhance grid flexibility and avoid the emission of approximately 1.2 million tons of CO2. These projects complement ACWA Power’s existing footprint in Morocco, where it manages several solar plants including NOOR I, II, and III in Ouarzazate and NOOR PV I in Laayoune and Boujdour.
“We are proud to deepen our contribution to Morocco’s ambitious 2030 targets by delivering cutting-edge, reliable, and cost-effective renewable energy and storage capabilities,” said Marco Arcelli, CEO, ACWA Power.
