Solarcentury Africa has commissioned the 19.3 MWp Gerus solar plant in Namibia, the country's first merchant solar facility to sell power directly on the competitive Southern African Power Pool. The $20 million project, funded by parent company BB Energy, will generate enough clean electricity annually to power over 14,000 homes and avoid 17,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. It follows the company's similar merchant plant in Zambia and is part of a strategy to develop over 320 MWp of market-driven solar capacity in the region by 2027. The project's commercial model highlights a growing trend of private, trading-led renewable energy assets addressing regional power shortages....
