The Lobito Atlantic Railway has obtained $753 million from US and South African development banks to upgrade a 1,300-km rail line and port for exporting minerals from Congo and Zambia to the Atlantic. This initiative is expected to increase annual cargo capacity to 4.6 million tonnes and lower transport costs by 30%, competing with more expensive routes through South Africa and Tanzania.
