Masdar’s 1.4GW British wind farm to start operations this year

By: AGBI

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) expects the East Anglia Three offshore wind farm to be fully operational by the end of this year, expanding its British portfolio.

Turbine installation is underway at the £4 billion ($5.4 billion) project, which is 69km from the Suffolk coast in the east of England, the UAE renewables company said in a statement.

East Anglia Three is Masdar’s first equally owned offshore wind joint venture in the UK with ScottishPower Renewables, which is owned by Spanish utility major Iberdrola.

It will be one of the largest offshore wind farms in the UK. The facility will provide 1.4 gigawatts of clean energy to power more than 1.3 million homes, said Husain Al Meer, executive director, global offshore wind and UK at Masdar.

East Anglia Three is the second project to be developed as part of Masdar and Iberdrola’s $16 billion partnership. The deal, signed in December 2023, has created 2,300 construction jobs and is expected to create hundreds of long-term roles in England.

The companies secured nearly $4.8 billion in funding for the wind farm from 24 banks in July 2025.

In May, a joint venture between Masdar and Germany’s RWE secured approval from the UK energy ministry to develop the Dogger Bank South wind farms in the North Sea.

Masdar’s UK portfolio includes stakes in the London Array offshore wind farm (630MW) and the Dudgeon offshore wind farm (402MW).

In July, Masdar and Elektroprivreda Crne Gore, Montenegro’s national power utility, agreed to develop solar projects in the country.

Masdar is owned by Abu Dhabi’s state-run Taqa (43 percent), Mubadala (33 percent) and Adnoc (24 percent).
