Türkiye, Egypt discuss establishing of Ro-Ro transport link, road expansion
Deepening Ties Through Transport and Logistics
Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu has announced that Türkiye and Egypt are exploring the feasibility of launching Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) shipping operations between the two nations. The discussion took place during a meeting with Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel Al-Wazir on the sidelines of the TransMEA 2025 forum in Cairo. Minister Uraloglu emphasized a commitment to action, stating, “We will not leave these ideas at the level of statements but will implement them in action,” highlighting the strategic priority of enhancing bilateral trade through improved transport links.
Integrating Regional Corridors for a Greener Future
The ministers also discussed Egypt's major infrastructure projects and potential participation for Turkish contractors. Uraloglu positioned railway transport as a key, environmentally friendly alternative for regional connectivity. He specifically cited the Middle Corridor and the Development Road project as strategic initiatives aimed at connecting the Far East to Europe. Furthermore, he proposed a potential land connection for Egypt, routing through Aqaba in Jordan and Syria to link up with Türkiye and these broader corridors.

A Strategic Vision for Mutual Benefit
Underpinning the talks was a vision of regional cooperation for global competitiveness. Uraloglu stressed that in the modern world, even developed countries cannot sustain themselves alone. He directly connected economic cooperation with political relations, noting that strengthening trade through transport and logistics inherently leads to stronger political ties. The involvement of Turkish businesses in Egyptian projects was noted as a foundation to be expanded, with the Development Road project, involving Iraq, Qatar, and the UAE, reported to be in its final design stage.
