Turkey to tender 2GW renewable projects by year-end

By: AGBI

Turkey plans to receive bids for new renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 2,000 megawatts by the end of the year, energy minister Alparslan Bayraktar has said.

The tenders for the Yeka wind power plant and the GES solar power plant will be issued in November and December, the state-owned Anadolu Agency reported, quoting the minister’s speech at an event in Izmir.

Of the planned capacity, 1,150MW will come from wind power and 850MW from solar.

The wind power projects will range in size from 110MW to 500MW, while solar plants will be between 40MW and 260MW, Bayraktar said.

The wind projects are expected to receive investments of nearly $2.3 billion, while solar projects will account for $1 billion, the chairman of Energy Industrialists and Businessmen Association Alper Kalaycı told Anadolu Agency.

The large-scale projects will benefit companies producing domestic components in the renewable energy sector, he said.

Last year, the government amended the coastal law, allowing for the installation of renewable energy plants in seas, dams, artificial lakes and natural lakes.

Ankara will hold a tender for its first floating solar project, a 35MW facility at the Demirköprü Hydroelectric Power Plant reservoir in Manisa province, the minister said.

Hakan Erkan, secretary-general of the Turkish Solar Energy Industrialists and Industry Association, expects investments in the project of $20 million.
