Tanzania Ports Authority, AGL sign MoU for construction of new Bagamoyo Port berths
The Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Tanzania Ltd, a subsidiary of the global shipping giant MSC, for the design, construction, and operation of three new berths at the Bagamoyo Port. The agreement, signed on December 6, 2025, marks the start of the long-anticipated Bagamoyo Port project, with construction expected to commence in early January.
Under the initial phase, AGL will develop three modern berths as part of a larger plan to eventually build 28 berths at the port. The company will also construct two additional berths at the Dar es Salaam Port. TPA Director General Plasduce Mbossa stated that the project is open to further local and international investment, aiming to transform port operations in Tanzania.
AGL President Philippe Labonne cited Tanzania’s stable political climate, favorable investment environment, strategic geographic location, and capable workforce as key factors behind the investment. He emphasized that the partnership will unlock significant opportunities, including job creation. The construction of the three berths at Bagamoyo is projected to take 36 months. AGL was selected for its extensive logistics expertise, offering integrated services in cargo handling, shipping, customs, and supply chain management across various sectors.
