TGS signs key agreement granting the rights to market and license geophysical data covering the Comoros’s offshore basins

By: Energy pedia news

TGS, a global provider of energy data and intelligence, has entered into a significant agreement with the Government of the Union of the Comoros and its Geological Survey. This pact grants TGS the rights to market and license geophysical data across the nation's offshore basins, reinforcing the company's commitment to supporting the development of the Comoros's emerging energy sector.

The cornerstone of this initiative is the ComorosSPAN survey, a comprehensive regional data library. This dataset is strategically positioned outboard of the deepwater Rovuma Basin, a major world-class petroleum province known for its significant hydrocarbon potential. The location makes the data highly valuable for understanding regional geology.

From a technical perspective, the data provides critical insights for energy exploration. It allows geologists to map tectonic elements and deformation along the East African margin linked to the Davie Fracture Zone. Furthermore, the data is instrumental in mapping potential reservoir sands and conducting modeling work to assess source rock potential, thereby reducing exploration risk.

The specific offering under this agreement includes over 10,000 line kilometers of modern 2D seismic data, which TGS will market exclusively. This dataset is designed to provide essential insight into the geological framework and hydrocarbon prospectivity of the region, giving energy companies a clearer picture of the investment opportunities.

For energy companies, these datasets are a vital first step. They are critical for assessing the exploration potential across the numerous available offshore blocks in the Comoros, enabling informed decision-making before committing to more costly and extensive exploration activities.

David Hajovsky, Executive Vice President of Multi-Client at TGS, emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating that it provides explorers with the modern seismic insight needed to evaluate this frontier region with greater confidence, ultimately paving the way for future investment.
