Syria, Saudi Arabia sign agreements in oil, gas sectors

By: Middle east monitor

Syria and Saudi Arabia have signed a series of oil and gas agreements, marking a significant step in the rebuilding of Syria's energy sector after years of conflict. According to Syrian state media, the state-owned Syrian Petroleum Company entered into four deals with Saudi companies at the Energy Ministry in Damascus, focusing on technical support and the development of oil and gas fields.

The agreements come shortly after the CEO of the Syrian Petroleum Company, Youssef Qaballawi, announced the discovery of five new gas fields in Syria's western Sahel region. With proven gas reserves estimated at about 8.5 trillion cubic feet as of 2015, Syria aims to boost production and attract investment to support post-war reconstruction.

Under the leadership of President Ahmad al-Sharaa, the new Syrian government has been actively pursuing international partnerships and memoranda of understanding to revitalize the economy and restore the country's energy infrastructure following a 14-year civil war.
