South Africa is set to experience load-shedding once again, after nearly ten months of uninterrupted power supply. The announcement has been met with disappointment, particularly as the nation had hoped to celebrate a full year without load-shedding by the end of March. However, the Solar PV Industry Association (SAPVIA) has urged citizens to maintain perspective, emphasizing the importance of continued progress toward energy security.

Dr. Rethabile Melamu, CEO of SAPVIA, acknowledged the public frustration but reminded the nation of the hard work and collaboration that had led to improvements in the country’s power situation. “While this setback is disappointing, it is important to recognize that we are on the right track,” Melamu said. “The trend lines are moving in the right direction, and we are getting closer to a permanent solution.”

The return of load-shedding was confirmed ahead of its anticipated resumption later on Friday. Despite this, Melamu expressed optimism about the future, urging stakeholders to stay focused on the long-term goal of energy security. “We are within touching distance of the finish line,” she continued, calling on all involved parties to remain committed to ending load-shedding permanently.

She emphasized the role of solar energy in achieving a sustainable and resilient energy future, encouraging further contributions from solar solutions to drive the country toward its energy goals.
