Saudi Arabia’s maritime fleet posts second-highest growth rate globally among G20 nations
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia marked a significant milestone in the maritime transport sector in 2025, with its national fleet recording a 32 percent growth rate compared to 2024.
The Transport General Authority (TGA) stated that the achievement secures Saudi Arabia the second-highest growth rate globally among Group of Twenty (G20) nations, reflecting the rapid pace of development underway across the Kingdom’s transport and logistics infrastructure.
This accelerated growth comes amid continuous development in the Kingdom’s maritime transport sector, driven by a combination of regulatory and operational initiatives, alongside enabling investments. These efforts include updating legislative frameworks, improving governance and safety standards, and enhancing the operational efficiency and competitiveness of national fleets in both regional and international markets.
The Saudi maritime fleet’s performance marks a substantial leap from the 6.4 percent growth rate recorded at the beginning of 2024, highlighting the sector’s accelerating year-on-year progress and the effectiveness of recent reforms aimed at expanding capacity and modernizing maritime operations.
The Transport General Authority stated that the achievement aligns with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to consolidate the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub, strengthen the role of the maritime sector in supporting supply chains, develop the national economy, and improve the efficiency of international trade flows through Saudi ports.
The authority added that this progress underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to developing an integrated maritime transport ecosystem in line with international best practices. It also reflects ongoing efforts to support the sector’s long-term sustainability and resilience, while further cementing the Kingdom’s strategic position among leading global maritime and logistics nations.
