Mauritania Signs $300M Deal for Hybrid Power Plant

The Mauritanian government has signed an agreement with renewable energy company Ewa Green Energy for the construction of a $300 million hybrid power plant combining solar and wind generation. The facility will have a total capacity of 220 MW, with 160 MW from solar and 60 MW from wind. It will also include an energy storage system with a capacity of 370 MWh.
Under the agreement, Ewa Green Energy will build, operate and manage the plant for 15 years, after which ownership will be transferred. During this period, the state-owned utility Somelec will purchase the electricity generated.
The project is scheduled to be fully operational by September 2026. It is expected to supply between 60 MW daily, strengthening Mauritania’s national grid and reducing reliance on imports.
