L&T on selecting Nextpower Arabia for 2.25GW Bisha contract
Indian engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has selected Nextpower Arabia to supply 2.25 gigawatts peak (GWp) of advanced solar tracking systems for the Bisha Solar project in Saudi Arabia.
According to the news report by Zawya, Bharathi Kumar, general manager (renewable international) at L&T, said the company has “tremendous confidence” in Nextpower Arabia’s ability to deliver advanced, utility-grade solar solutions that will maximise performance and support the long-term delivery of low-cost clean energy at the Bisha plant.
He added that localising production of the tracking systems would improve efficiencies across the development process, while reducing the cost and environmental impact associated with international shipping.
The project is being developed by an ACWA Power-led consortium and was procured by the Saudi Power Procurement Company as part of Wave 6 of the Kingdom’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), overseen by the Saudi Ministry of Energy.
Located in Saudi Arabia’s Asir Province, Bisha is the largest solar project awarded under Wave 6, representing a significant addition to the Kingdom’s expanding utility-scale renewable portfolio and supporting its long-term energy diversification and decarbonisation objectives.
The 2.25GWp order marks the first major project to be delivered through Nextpower Arabia, the newly established joint venture between Nextpower and Abunayyan Holding, which is now fully operational.
Through localised sales, manufacturing, logistics and supply chain capabilities, Nextpower Arabia aims to support the efficient deployment of large-scale solar projects across the Middle East and North Africa, while contributing to industrial development and workforce growth in the region.
Dan Shugar, founder and CEO of Nextpower, said the Middle East and North Africa remains a key strategic market for the company, noting that the Bisha project builds on its longstanding partnerships with ACWA Power and L&T.
He added that Nextpower Arabia enables the localisation of resilient, intelligent solar technologies engineered for the region’s demanding conditions, while strengthening domestic supply chains in support of Saudi Arabia’s long-term energy transition goals.
