Kinetiko Energy has achieved its strongest-ever gas flow at a test well in South Africa, with results that far outstrip previous records.

The company reported that its Brakfontein well produced more than three times the highest flow it had ever recorded, a milestone that underscores the potential for large-scale gas production in the country.

Kinetiko credited improved drilling methods for the breakthrough, noting that the new approach could also boost performance at older wells. The result strengthens the company’s plans to supply a pilot LNG  plant and begin commercial sales.

Executive Chairman Adam Sierakowski said the record output from a relatively shallow depth shows the “unrecognized potential” of South Africa’s onshore gas reserves to support cleaner energy production.

Kinetiko, an Australian-listed company, is focused on developing South Africa’s gas resources as the country seeks to reduce reliance on coal and diversify its energy mix.
