Jambojet Cargo joins WebCargo to expand digital access in East Africa
Jambojet, Africa's leading low-cost airline, has partnered with the digital freight platform Freightos WebCargo to modernize air cargo connectivity across East Africa. The announcement, made in Nairobi on 24 November 2025, enables real-time online booking and management of cargo capacity across the airline’s nine key regional routes. Jambojet's CEO, Karanja Ndegwa, stated that this digital shift provides freight forwarders with smoother access, improves service reliability, and supports growing regional trade.
Simultaneously, Africa's pharmaceutical air cargo sector is undergoing significant expansion, driven by rising healthcare demands and major infrastructure investments. Key logistics hubs in Nairobi, Addis Ababa, and Johannesburg are enhancing their cold chain capabilities with certifications like IATA CEIV Pharma to handle sensitive shipments. While the continent currently imports most of its medicines, growing local manufacturing and initiatives like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) are expected to boost intra-African trade and reshape supply chains. Despite challenges like infrastructure gaps and regulatory fragmentation, investments in specialized technology and facilities position Africa as an increasingly strategic player in global pharmaceutical logistics.
