Financing Africa’s renewable energy future – the infrastructure challenge

The International Energy Agency estimates that an annual investment of USD190-billion is required to meet Africa’s energy and climate goals, yet much of this financing gap remains unfulfilled.
The Africa Energy Indaba 2025, taking place from 4–6 March 2025 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, will convene global leaders, investors and innovators to tackle these pressing infrastructure needs. Africa’s energy transformation is vital not only for its economic development but also to provide electricity access for the 600 million Africans still living without reliable energy.
Key issues to be explored at the Indaba include:
· Strategies to finance large-scale energy infrastructure projects.
· The role of public-private partnerships in closing the financing gap.
· Solutions to ensure renewable energy projects meet the demands of Africa’s rapidly urbanising population.
· The Energy Projects Dealroom, connecting high-impact projects with global investors.
“Africa’s growing population and urbanisation present both challenges and opportunities for the energy sector. The Africa Energy Indaba will play a critical role in shaping the solutions needed to power the continent sustainably,” says Liz Hart, managing director of the Africa Energy Indaba.
