High-Level Forum Participation

Turkish Minister of Transport Abdulkadir Uraloğlu attended the TransMEA 2025 Smart Transport Exhibition and Forum in Cairo, a significant regional event that also featured Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The forum served as a platform for high-level discussions on regional connectivity and infrastructure, culminating in the official authorization for trial operations of Egypt's first high-speed Velaro train.

Strengthening Bilateral Trade Ties

Minister Uraloğlu presented data underscoring the robust and growing maritime trade relationship between Türkiye and Egypt. He revealed that for October 2025, Egypt was the top partner for Turkish ports in both container imports (88,476 TEU) and exports (93,058 TEU), with the bilateral trade flow totaling 181,534 TEU and accounting for over 15% of all container handling at Turkish ports that month.

Overall Growth in Turkish Ports

The minister provided context with broader national port statistics, noting that Turkish ports handled a total of 11.7 million TEUs in the first ten months of 2025, a 3.5% year-on-year increase. The positive trend continued in October alone, with container throughput rising 3.3% to 1,193,441 TEU, demonstrating the sustained growth and capacity of Türkiye's maritime infrastructure.

Fostering Regional Cooperation

During his visit, Uraloğlu engaged in bilateral meetings with transport ministers from various countries and toured exhibition pavilions, including those of Turkish companies. His agenda also included a prominent role in a high-level ministerial panel with counterparts from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Greece, and South Africa, focusing on connecting the Middle East and Africa through industry, transport, and logistics.

Showcasing Türkiye's Strategic Vision

At the forum, Minister Uraloğlu positioned Türkiye as a key player in regional infrastructure, planning to share the country's experience with mega-projects and its strategic "Development Road Project." This highlights Türkiye's active efforts to promote its vision for enhanced regional connectivity and establish itself as a central hub in the evolving transport landscape of the Middle East and Africa.
