By: Energy capital & power

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Tanzania have agreed to establish a joint technical committee to strengthen cooperation in the oil and gas sector. The decision was announced following a bilateral meeting held on July 8 between Aimé Sakombi Molendo, Minister of Hydrocarbons of the DRC, and Dr. Doto Biteko, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Tanzania.

The committee will be tasked with updating the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2016 and developing a roadmap for future activities between the two countries. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for July 28 for the signing of the revised MoU by both parties.

Additionally, the ministers discussed the exchange of technical data related to oil and gas exploration and production in the Tanganyika Graben. They also addressed the importance of developing cross-border infrastructure, including the Hoima–Tanga pipeline and the Dar es Salaam–Ndola–Sakania corridor, to support the growing energy needs of both nations.
