DEWA Strengthens Renewable Energy Partnerships in China

By: Utilities Middle east

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), led a high-level delegation to China to strengthen cooperation with Chinese companies, focusing on renewable energy. The delegation aimed to exchange global best practices in solar energy and storage technologies, aligning with Dubai’s clean energy objectives.

DEWA is in the tendering stage for the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is set to feature 2,000 MW of photovoltaic solar panels and a 1,400 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) with six hours of storage. This project, under the independent power producer model, will be among the world’s largest to integrate solar energy and battery storage.

The delegation included key DEWA executives and explored partnerships with major Chinese companies involved in clean and renewable energy projects. They visited Huawei, BYD, Tesla, Sungrow, and the CRRC Zhuzhou Institute to gain insights into photovoltaic panels, energy storage, AI applications, and smart solutions.

Al Tayer emphasised that the visit aligns with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to accelerate the energy transition and establish Dubai as a hub for clean energy. The visit supports DEWA’s efforts to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net-Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.
