Congo’s Mbalam-Nabeba Mine to Start Production in December 2025

The cross-border Mbalam-Nabeba iron ore mining project between Congo and Cameroon will begin production in December 2025, ahead of its initial 2025 schedule. Railway construction will begin simultaneously.
Developed by Chinese firm Sangha Mining, the project was initiated in 2024. On the Congolese side, the project covers iron ore reserves estimated at 1.5 billion tons in Nabeba, 1.4 billion tons in Avima, and 679 million tons in Badondo. The project includes the construction of a 149 km railway in Congo and a 540 km link to the port of Kribi in Cameroon. When operational, the mine is expected to generate up to 20,000 jobs across both Congo and Cameroon.
