Congo Grants SNPC License to Explore Nzombo Deepwater Area
The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Congo has approved a decree granting National Oil Company Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC) with a permit to explore the deepwater Nzombo area.
SNPC will explore the offshore basin for six years, with an option for the permit to be renewed with an additional three years. The permit allows SNPC to partner with other partners, with global major TotalEnergies indicating its interest in a letter submitted in February 2025.
The deepwater basin – with water depths between 1,000 m and 1,500 m – spans approximately 1,053 km² and is a result of the re-division of three blocks including Marine XXX, Marine XIX and the Haute Mer A permit.
The milestone aligns with Congo’s efforts to maximize the exploration potential of its offshore basins.
