Burkina Faso Gold Output to Jump 40% on WAF’s New Mines

West African Resources (WAF) projects gold production of at least 290,000 ounces in Burkina Faso for 2025, driven by expected output from its new Kiaka gold mine. The Australian company disclosed this in its second-quarter operational report, which would represent a 40.3% increase compared to the 206,622 ounces produced in the country in 2024.
WAF anticipates gold production between 190,000 and 210,000 ounces from its first mine, Sanbrado. That site had already delivered 95,644 ounces by the end of the first half of 2025, including 45,611 ounces in the second quarter. The company recently began producing gold from its new Kiaka mine, which is expected to yield between 100,000 and 150,000 ounces by year-end, potentially bringing total output to 360,000 ounces.
“This has been a transformative quarter for WAF with our large, long-life, low cost Kiaka gold project now operational alongside our Sanbrado gold operation,” CEO Richard Hyde said.
In the long term, the company is targeting even higher gold production in Burkina Faso, with a peak of 473,000 ounces expected in 2029. WAF also plans to launch operations at Toegao, a satellite deposit of the Sanbrado mine that could add 50,000 ounces to gold production.
