100MW floating solar project announced in Nigeria
Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited in Nigeria has signed a PPA agreement with Granville Energy to design, build, finance, and operate a 100MW floating solar power plant at the Kainji hydro power plant. The project aligns with Mainstream Energy Solutions' mission to transform Nigeria's energy landscape and is a significant step forward in the company's mission to power Nigeria's economic growth in an environmentally responsible manner. Abba Aliyu, Managing Director of the Renewable Electrification Agency (REA), said that injecting 100 megawatts of renewable energy into the grid is a huge and significant increase in the renewable mix of the country. Currently, the Rural Electrification Agency is working on injecting about 188.4 megawatts through interconnected mini-grids, with one of the first floating solar projects planned for the University of Lagos. The project will be located by the side of the lagoon to power the University of Lagos. The project is expected to contribute to Nigeria's renewable energy mix and contribute to the country's overall renewable energy mix.
