Two ABO Energy solar projects in South Africa’s Free State, totaling 410 MW, have been selected as preferred bidders under the REIPPPP Bid Window 7, with Red Rocket South Africa leading the winning consortium. The awards are part of a broader addition of 890 MW, bringing the total capacity procured in this bid window to 3,940 MW across 18 projects, representing an estimated R16 billion investment. All selected projects commit to significant South African ownership and Black Economic Empowerment participation, with a target grid connection within 24 months. The government cited strong market interest and an opportunity to reallocate capacity from undersubscribed wind energy as key factors in advancing these additional solar projects....
